Call for Expressions of Interest - August 2008
AMTS calls for the submission of expressions of interest for applied research and development in micro-manufacturing.
Research and Development Focus Areas include a combination of:
- Micro Design – Multi-scale simulation and modelling
- Micro Materials – Use of carbon nano tubes and electro active polymers
- Micro Processes – Formative, subtractive and additive processes
- Micro Systems – Systems that can sense, think, react and sustain themselves (e.g. micro fluidics, desktop factories,…)

AMTS Leading Expert Access Programmes
LEAP is an intervention designed to ensure that institutions participating
in the AMTS Flagship Programmes, and the South African manufacturing
industry, have access to international experts.
It is intended that LEAP will facilitate the transfer of valuable knowledge
within and into South Africa through relevant and productive interactions
with identified experts. It is further intended to create new relationships
and build existing relationships with other institutions inside and
outside the country and enable the development of local industry.
Definition of an Expert
For the purposes of LEAP, an expert is someone widely recognized as
a reliable source of knowledge, technique, or skill whose judgement
is accorded authority and status by the public or their peers. Experts
have prolonged or intense experience through practice and education
in a particular field.
The Profile of an Expert
In deciding if any one individual is an expert the following criteria
will be taken into consideration;
