AMTS FabLab: North West launched

2 August 2007

The fifth FabLab in South Africa was launched by the Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Mosibudi Mangena, in Potchefstroom on 2 August 2007. The launch of the FabLab marks a further realisation of the Department of Science and Technology's (DST) goal of providing science, engineering and technology platforms for social development, while benefiting private sector competitiveness and growth.

Minister of Science and Technology teams up with Fab Kids

17 April 2007

Members of the Meraka Institute's Fab Kids project were joined by an unexpected 'guest learner' on 8 May 2007 when Mr Mosibudi Mangena, Minister of Science and Technology, took three hours out of his diary to familiarise himself with this project at the Pretoria-based Fab Lab. The Meraka Institute is managed by the CSIR. This visit was part of a Science4Life recording for the television show, broadcast on SABC 1 on Mondays at 18:30. The specific episode is to be broadcast on Monday,14 May, 2007.

AMTS FabLabs and CSIR empower learners at Science Unlimited

5 - 9 March 2007

Many of the learners in South Africa do not have access to science and the subject thus remains abstract to them. The CSIR strives to change this by participating in national festivals of science, engineering and technology (SET). A range of visually appealing exhibits and demonstrations from the AMTS FabLabs and the CSIR will encourage the youth at ScienceUnlimited to pursue careers in science.

FABulous technology for innovative lighting
