About Provincial Initiatives

The AMTS is a national strategy - yet manufacturing happens in a provincial and local context and so if the AMTS is to make a difference, it has to interface with both provincial and local manufacturing clusters. This would include industrialists, governments and higher education institutions.

The AMTS has already partnered with the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Provincial Government to develop an advanced manufacturing technology strategy that meets the needs of the province and the manufacturing sector of the Cape Metropole. This existing initiative saw the integration of industrial needs with technological foresight and has enabled government to better understand how the facilitate the way forward.

The AMTS Implementation Unit is currently working with Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provincial governments and various local government structures to bring increased competitiveness and future technological focus to their manufacturing sectors.

Ultimately the main aim is to see all of South Africa's manufacturing sector embracing advanced manufacturing technologies as drivers of growth and economic and social development.
